I came across this cool story on Wired of a DJ who's now using iPads to create with and loved what was done with audio (play video link for a listen) and I immediately thought of Halloween. Anyone out there hear of anyone adapting an iPad to run halloween effects for a haunt? I haven't wanted to invest in the whole computer programmed lighting systems (although I did pick up a Gemmy Light Show with iPod at clearance last year) and I'm thinking an iPad might be a great tool for something like that. Anyone else thinking along these lines? As more things becoming wireless, in my mind this opens up a lot of possibilities to run an app on an iPad and control various sound and props from the device. I had the chance to use an iPad over the weekend and am intrigued.

Here's a DIY 'Virtual Window' Project using IR LEDs and a WiiRemote that is controlled through an app on an iPhone (now iPad too I assume) that is really cool. Picture versions of it in a haunt.
BTW the website, Hack N Mod, itself is worth hours of browsing. You guys will love this site if you haven't already discovered it.

I have been thinking about giving this a try.

Also, with Apple's free Remote app you can use an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to control your iTunes library or music stored on your apple tv. For the last couple of years I used my iphone as a remote control to trigger scarry sounds (like screams, etc,) that I had stored in iTunes. I just ran a long cable from my computer to a speaker outside, then I can choose to play any sound stored on my computer from my iPhone.

Last year there were a few threads about Theremins and I loved the sound from them. However the cost of buying/building one could get pretty expensive. If you have an iPod/iPad here's a few iPod/iPad theremin apps that are worth a listen.

If you pair the iPad / iPhone / iPod touch with a pc, you open up a lot of possibilites. there are quite a few apps that work with pc apps to control X-10 and Insteon controlled devices, as well as apps to view I.p. or web cameras. I plan to use an app that works with a pc automation app called event ghost to remotely trigger VSA routines. No idea if it will work, but it looks like it will & it's worth a shot.

Too late! We have 2 iPads, as well as 2 iPod touches and an iPhone. They're addictive. (I'm typing this on an iPad.) The kool aid tastes great!

Wow!
My mind is blown with all the awesome opportunities here. I just received an old iPhone because my dad is trying to convince me to use one (still don't have a cell phone) and he was trying to sell me on the apps that are available. With this thread, he may have partially won the war here. I would get the iPad and focus on haunt apps and I still won't have to use a cell phone (hate phone calls!).
Thanks so much for creating this thread.

Take a look at this thread I posted some time back. It's completely feasible, with a small amount of code, to trigger VSA routines using existing iPhone software using OSC - Open Sound Control.

Amazing! I have always been a tech nut but things are out of control. There are just so many creative people out there and so many new toys. I can't keep up anymore.
