I have started on my pirate version of the drinking ghoul found in Shawn Mitchell's How to Haunt Your House.

I used a latex half torso and placed it in a chest with a bucket of rum and a small fountain pump and ran the pump tube up the arm and into the bottle. The most difficult part is positioning the bottle at the right height and angle and getting it to stay there.

I will hide the bucket with some black weed barrier fabric. Maybe I should add a sound effect of a ghoul gulping his rum?

Cool ! Yeah, you can get a track from the POTC ride of a pirate gulping rum tothe tune of " A Pirate's Life for me ! "...I think that would work pretty well for this.

Are you experianceing any water loss ?

My full size drinking pirate used to lose water every night and would need his basin topped off again the next day.

Does anyone exactly how Disney's functions ?

    Thanks for the comments.

I will have to run it for a couple of hours to see if there is any leakage. Maybe I will build in a rainwater collector so I won't have to add any water.

Disney's POTC drinking effect is done with a piece of twisted red ribbon that spins, creating the look of flowing liquid.

    No problem.

Really !? I've been trying to figure that out for the longest time...I made 10 diff adjustments to my drinking pirate trying to get the same effect...lol...and it doesn't use water at all...man..that's funny.. lol ;D

Has anyone else replicated the effect ? Or any detailed designs showing it ?

I have the POTC ride book...anything in there ? I don't recall from the last time I read it.

Buckaneerbabe built this prop a few years back. Below are probably the best photos we have of it. She had him sitting on a pile of treasure in a chest and his drink just poured through his body cavity and was collected in a drain beneath the pirate and then funneled into a bucket and then recycled through again. There was some spillage but as long as we started off with a full bucket it lasted through an evening without having to refill it. She also had the inside of the clothing lined with plastic that helped contain any splash.

I like what you've done and the bottle you have is absolutely perfect!

Just to clarify, the drinking pirate in the Captain's Quarter scene uses a tube with a piece of twisted plastic that spins, creating the illusion of flowing liquid. No actual liquid is used. (For a picture, check out p. 82 of Jason Surrell's book on POTC.)
