We went through a couple set ups at Transworld this year that incorporated air tubes in the walk thru.
One was a small room you walk into that was 'jungle' like. It was difficult to see the exit from this room. When you exited, you walk thru 2 airbags that were on each side of you they were about from knee to waist high. You had to push your way thru this and when you got half way through the lights went out and loud sound went off.
Another was a room with the ceiling lowered a little... There was an air bag on the ceiling and as you walked thru the ceiling got lower.
The last one was a clown area where each side of a hallway was covered with the air bags that you pushed through.
I would like to do something like this without spending the kind of money it would take to buy these :O !!!
For the ceiling.... I will just glue an air mattress to a ceiling that is angled down. But for the side walled that you push through..... Not sure if air mattress' would work. We could leave them partially deflatted but IF you got several people in there.... it would probably tighten around them????
How do these air deals work.... its like the Kids' jumping gyms .. with big fans or blowers....
Any suggestions on how to pull this off? Or, is it possible without spending $ ?

'HEY YOU GUYS'... I know you can help me with this!
Anyone had experience with the jumping gym air balloon things? How do they work?
Air seems to ge able to escape and yet is replenished????

From what I've seen, the moonbounce things, as well as these "Claustraphobia" scare things use high-output fans (they look like industrial hair dryers). and they do have small vents somewhere int eh structure to allow air to escape, but the rate of outflow is not greater than the inflow from the fans...not for too long at any one time, anyway.

Wonder if an air matress could be modified to work... attach one of these blowers and then cut a small opening for air to escape? These are much heavier fabric. Would that hinder it being inflated?

The heavier fabric might not hinder it, but air mattresses are chambered, in order to get the "mattress" shape. So I don't think you'd get the same effect as you do from the giant inflated tubes, which are just big bags full of air...I would think an air mattress is too "structured"... Just my opinion...I'll keep thinking on this, because it really is a neat effect and I'd love to do this as well.

I don't know how you'ld handle the outflow, but you could take a look at inflatable dunnage.

Actually....ya know what would work really well? Waterbed mattresses. They have an inlet and an outlet, and can be easily patched (waterbed patch kits available at any store that sells waterbeds) to modify either to fit your blowers. Now, where you get the blowers for a decent price...I don't know. Find a couple cheap inflatable decorations, I suppose.

I was thinking about a air mattress, but maybe a waterbed mattress would work.
Checking into those dunnage bags... found some that are vinyl.. One place looks like I could buy just a couple without buying a whole pallet full. Maybe with a few punchures into the vinyl... and then modify it to work with a blower?? Need to check the width of that hallway and see if those would fill up the space. I think they would come pretty close. IF I can buy just a couple of them it would only cost 18 bucks or so BEFORE shipping. I'm going to look into that somemore!

Hey Lynn, I have a set of the Claustraphobia bags, but in reality they aint bags. What they are, are just a sheet of fabric ( like parachute materail ) for each side that has eyelets spaced all the way around the edges to mount them. The blower's that keep them invalated are the commercial floor dryers for carpets. one for each side. The air escapes at the edges to keep them from being over inflated. It takes a whooping 15 minutes or so to set them up and the ppl love them. Course the younger generation have there own name for them but i cant state here what that is. Hope this helps in understanding what to look for.

I have seen a few online discussions in the past couple of years where people tried to make their own. Seemed like they had only so-so results. Do a search for "claustrophobia" on some of the forums and see what comes up.
I also recall seeing someone who built one for an office party and made it work. I tried to find that website for someone else but never found it.
I know some of the haunters who bought the real thing had some problems getting the inflation just right if they didn't follow the instructions closely. Something about the top being secured at the right height in a room.
I wouldn't use air mattresses - they're relatively expensive, and you would need quite a few to make it work. By the time you got done, you could buy a real one without the headaches. They do come up for sale used every now and then.
