I got one of the new Axe Killer DVDs and plan on running it with a dvd player. The DVD comes with several settings and one is it plays when told to, runs it's course, then sits in limbo waiting to be told to play again. I dont want to have to carry the remote control around with me and when I see someone close to the prop, hit the play button. Is there a way to wire the remote with either a motion sensor or a mat sensor pad and when that is triggered, it will activate the play button. That is all is needed is to trigger the remote to tell the dvd to play then the dvd resets it's self for the next trigger. And I am mechanical, not an electronic person so basic electronics 101 would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi, its easy to hack most cheap dvd players. Theres a tutorial on here.
Basically you need to have a relay to close the circuit momentarily on the play button of the DVD player. A simple prop timer triggered by a PIR motion sensor,
mat switch, etc. will do the trick.

Well there might be a problem because It might get triggered a second time and pause it so you would have to have the prop controller reset itself after the dvd ends.

I was thinking that as well. I was out today so didn't have time to post this. But maybe ask the maker of the dvd, which there is another thread going on about it, what they do. But yhes, most play buttons are also pause as well. So while it's playing it get tripped again then pause it. Thanks !! I need to look at the DVD player I will be using and see if it has it's own play button and wire it directly to the DVD player, not remote.

The prop timer will run for a set amount of time before allowing another trigger.
Depending on which prop timer is used, some have adjustable times for trigger and delay, some don't
I suggest asking one of the sponsers of this site which product will work best.
I plan on testing with my picoboo and a PIR trigger to see if it will work.

It's like 1 minute. It is that new Axe Killer one put out by Hi-RezDesigns to go with a self built door. I was going to use in in my haunted garage. It's a pretty good size garage so I can open both doors, have it tarped so you need to enter from one far side and whind your way through it ( about three walk ways ) till you have to exit. Near the exit part I was going to have a sensor mat or beam, probably mat like the PicoBoo with the F103 unit trigger the axe killer dvd near the exit. So My hopes is to have them step on it and maybe clear the mat, depending on howmany kids are with the group. They may even be standing on the mat while it's playing so I was hoping to set it, if it can, to 1 minute intervals to be able to be triggered again. If this makes sense.

O only a minute I was thinking like an hour or so like a movie. But all you would have to do on the picoboo is press the button and then wait like a minute and a half then end the programing.

FrightProps - Halloween Decorations, Halloween Props, Pneumatic Props, Animated Props, Halloween Accessories
The picoboo can record 2 minutes of animation. I am going to use one with a PIR trigger to start the DVD. The second channel could be a flickering light before video starts, or ambient lighting.
In programming, you have to give a momentary on for the DVD to play.
And thats it. As long as you continue to record for the length of the video, it won't allow another trigger input.
