The weather cooperated enough this last week for me to spend a couple of days in the garage without my parka on get a good start on my first prop of the year.
The barrel is made from a cardboard tube covered in paper mache with a little bit of blue foam on the end. The carriage is made out of scrap plywood and blue foam. The flash on my camera made the rusting redder and the carriage yellower than they really are. I also need to put a few more coats of paint on the carriage.
Inside is a SAW 3 sound recorders from All Electronics (SAW 3 DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER | AllElectronics.com) hooked up to an amplifier and speakers plus lights and a 400 watt fog machine all hooked up to a single switch. Eventually it will be VSA controlled.

Thanks everyone. I've been playing with the SAW 3 sound recorder (SAW 3 DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER | AllElectronics.com) a little more. It's great for $2.00 but I keep getting a little pop at the end of recording. I'm getting it when I use the built in button for recording and, to eliminate mechanical sound, an couple of wires I soldered to the record button pads. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Originally I was building this for another website's $20 prop contest but, after close review by the judges, I was just over $21... Ignore the comment in the video about the $20. I have it being triggered by a relay from VSA. Tripping the relay does the sound, light in the barrel, and the fog machine. It makes it much easier to deal with in VSA and only uses one channel now.

Here's a few more build pictures:

This is the sound module I used:

To keep the playback from popping, I added a capacitor like someone on the All Electronics review for the module said to do.
