I have very little experience with electronics and have a very simple question. I was given a 12V DC solenoid last year. Everything my haunt is currently using is all 110AC. Would it be (A) possible and (B) safe, to wire the the solenoid to an AC adapter to run it to my 110AC motion trigger?

If by AC adapter you mean something like a 12 DC wall wart, then yes it is both possible and safe. The biggest concern is that your adapter can provide enough current to operate the solenoid. Do you know the electrical specifications of the solenoid?

a wall wart is exactly what I'm talking about, thanks. The specs on the solenoid are 12v 11watt.

That would require just under 1 amp, so as long as your wall wart can support that, you're golden.
