    Hello All,
Fairly new to this forum but love all the information. I have made several basic animated props using deer motors but have several of the $3 little black gear motors laying around and would like to use them. Just had a couple of questions: How well do they do in wet weather? Looking at their specs it looks like they are designed to run intermittently, anyone use them continuously for several hour over entire month of Oct. Any help would be appreciated.

    hi mmully,
i have run these motors continuously for 4-5 hours a day throughout the season in leer/peeper props without any failure. they are small, so careful design to avoid binding or excessive loads is important.
with the plastic housing it should handle wet conditions better than most, though i wouldn't expose any motors directly to water.

I use several of them in my yard props, running 6 to 7 hours daily. They do run continuously and are very quiet.
I don't let them get wet, so I don't know if they can handle that or not. I would just get a disposable tupperware type container and make a cover for the motor if I was worried about rain.

I have built several props with simple animation with them. For the price, they're great little motors. Simple to power with wall watrs too. I ran mine 6-7 hours a night for about three weeks without any problem. One prop was outside with the motor exposed (no cover) and it rained twice without any issues.
Here are some links to previous posts showing the props.

And they do work great, I used to of these motors in my new 2010 greeter check him out in the prop section. They run so quiet you can't hear them even right next to them. They are not like a wiper motor however, you need to have easy push type motions, not lifting alot of weight, but they work great and are cheap. I use a 1/4" bolt right into the drive spindle and then just buy a length of aluminum stock to make your crank arms out of. I bought my power supply from All Electronics | Electronic and Electro-Mechanical Parts and Supplies at Discount Prices

The power supply is alot more than the motor, but for around $13 total you have a nice dependable little motor.

if there is a lot of weight you could always add a spring to counter the weight so the motor is still lifting a lighter load
    There's always a way
