OK, maybe you are like me...today I saw a post by iHauntu wherein "steampunk" was mentioned and I've seen people occasional refer to the term on the forum....and I had no idea what anyone was talking about. I needed some enlighting so did a wikipedia search of the term and wow is this "look" cool. I grew up in the 50s when I remember Popular Science issues showing sci-fi space ships and such. IMO the steampunk look is even cooler. I've always loved the Jules Verne "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" & H.G. Wells "The Time Machine" kind of feel to things. Here's a site to check out with some really neat props, the Steampunk Workshop, that might inspire you, check out the other pics down the side also: Dave Veloz's Mac Mini Mod, Monitor, & Keyboard | The Steampunk Workshop

I really want Dave Veloz's Mac Mini Mod, Monitor and Keyboard!!

I agree! It's just weird enough to be unsettling but still beautiful.

Here's a haunt that you my like, they use many steampunk concepts:

And as a bonus, here's prop that a favorite prop maker is probably unveiling soon (Edge Designs):

If you're a fan of comics at all, and steampunk, I'd suggest having a read of Girl Genius.
Girl Genius Online Comics! (this is the first one - the story's so much better if you start from the beginning)

One of my absolute favorite webcomics - that, and I've been a fan of Phil Foglio since...well...a very long time ago.

2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

Very interesting stuff! I'd never even heard of Steampunk before. And I love the Mac Mini. We use a Mac Mini in our hearse to play the floating ghost video through the projector. With a wireless mouse and keyboard I can easily control things without having to get into the hearse and it is so small, it's easy to hide.

Type in "Steampunk" at Amazon.com and you'll get a list of hundreds of books in that genre. Very fun reading!

There's a ton of steampunk items for sale at etsy.com - all hand made - but WAY over priced IMO!

Steampunk is great and would work awesome in a mad lab. I've been trying to find some cool steampunk items for my lab for the last couple years, but it seems like most of it is very expensive.

A little tip for anyone wanting to get into steampunk crafts, put up an add on craigslist. Ask for old broken mechanical clocks and typewriters, the more moving parts the more gizmos to pull out of them

This guy and his team, the outlanders, are some of the most amazing Steampunk artists I know of.

Steampunk has a huge following, and you can find them easily on Deviantart if you want to get inspiration.
There is also an alternate aesthetic called Dieselpunk, which is a more 1920's and 30's vision of the future. Good examples of Dieselpunk are in the movie Sky Captain and the world of Tomorrow and the video game Bioshock (The latter is in my opinion).

It has less of a following than Steampunk, and as such is a touch harder to find.

My only big gripe is that anyone will put a brass or copper gear on anything and call it Steampunk. It bothers me, however I'm an obsessive prop nerd and require perfection and purpose to all of my props components. *shrug*

Images of Halloween, projects for Halloween, and rants about Halloween, all year long. Halloween is Beautiful.

I enjoy steampunk, and am HUUUUGE into dieselpunk. (I blame it on my father's interest in both WWII and Lovecraft).
    Thanks for the post!
