I want to do a peppers ghost this year and have a fairly large one, about 3/4 of a person. So where is a good source for large pieces of plexi-glass, that is what everyone uses isn't it? Thanks
Jeff

I would think Home Depot, Lowes, sign shop and maybe a salvage shop for a cheaper price?

I'm thinking Lowe's or HD too... I'm saving to buy as large a piece as I can get this Fall. I have to build an enclosure for the singing skeleton quartet... I've got to figure out some way (short of keeping them in the garage and only opening the door during performances) to keep the little b@st$%(s from stealing them!!!
Anyone have any ideas about how to secure them that won't look too "white trash?" (I was thinking about a chicken wire cage!)"I'll bet living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween..."

Have you thought about using window insulation? the kind you use a hair dryer to shrink. we used that for our large peppers ghost ( bloody mary) illusion. It worked quite well for us , as long as it back far enough that nobody is going to wanna touch it.

I would agree with Halloweenbarb. Shrink film works extremley well. I replace my very large peice each year for about $8. I'll buy several boxes at a time and break out a new one every season. It will literally becomes invisable at just a couple feet. A large peice of plexy is hard to keep scratch free. Not sure what size your looking for but here is a link to the brand I've purchsed... free shipping if you buy 3..... Amazon.com: Duck 00-09122 Indoor 5-Window Shrink Film Kit, 62-by-210-Inch: Home Improvement I've also tried Frost King and 3M and they all seem to be the same. Here's a link to my Peppers Ghost.... I found a 48"x72" piece of good safety glass at a building surplus dealer. It's not something everybody can deal with, as it's heavy, needs a proper frame built, and requires some storage space if you wish to hang on to it.
I do believe hower that true Glass gives the best results for this illusion - more so outdoors where any breeze can cause a less rigid surface to flutter.
Window insulation is a valid option if you're sheltered from the wind, but be prepared to spoil a couple of pieces while mastering how to frame it correctly
For Smaller displays, I've used the plexi glass from Homedepot with great results - the challange here is cutting it: take care in scoring it straight and deep to avoid cracks. It's not cheap, and mistakes can be costly.
I hope you follow through with this - it's a great illusion. I have a example "howto" posted here:
