There have been many different takes on LED lighting for props, but here's what we're doing for this year. We went to the dollar store and picked up about 30 of these lights. They are surprisingly bright. Even without the colored gels, they give off a cool light effect.
The cost?
LED push light = $1.00
Half of a AAA batttery pack = $0.50
Piece of colored gel = $0.30
Total ---------- approx. $1.80 per light!
Here is an example of the lighting with the purple and orange LEDs:
And, here's a video of my simple mod:

Hope this helps the budget conscious members out there...

Well, my Toyota may now be shooting out of control to the Dollar store....
Great idea, great video.

I picked up 6 of these before Christmas to use in my garage. They work quite well as spot lights hung from the ceiling and garage door. One of my dollar stores also carries a Plant LED light which has a single battery operated LED but comes with a small stake which should work well in my graveyard as long as it stays dry.
With LEDs working at specific wavelengths I wasn't sure if gels would work well. Thanks for confirming they do.When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

A couple of years ago I made about 50 led lights using pvc. I put 5 led's in each light. Each light took me about 20 minutes to make. Each one cost me about $2 to make. (I put a switch in them which was by far the most expensive item).
After all of that work, I keep seeing things like this dollar store light everywhere. Little flash lights at Harbor Freight, and clearance tables at ACE and OSH and even at the grocery store checkout. I have the same kind of luck with the stock market

Operatingnurse.......how do you have the lights placed in the pic with Barney? They are hidden well, yet they are shining on all the right places. I take it these are not weather proof? I really need to hit the dollar stores more often!!!!

Very simple and effective!
How long do you think this lasts with 3 AAA batteries? I've had my battery-op stuff die on me about halfway through the night with regular dollar store batteries....

Some reason the video keeps stalling at 31 seconds but from the look of the pic you nailed it!!!
