Hi all!
I just finished the final touches on my paper mache skull. This is my 1st attempt at paper mache and also at making a skull totally from scratch. (you may have seen my previous post about my 1st skull armature...well, this is the final product)
...I still have to give the lower jaw its paint treatments, but I couldn't wait to show you folks this.
Ok, all done. here's some pics with the jaw attached (methinks I doth seriously goofed in making the jaw...oh well, better luck next time I guess)....
(lesson learned -- pay attention, and do all the painting at the same time, NOT in 2 seperate sittings.)
BTW: in case you're wondering, the teeth are styrofoam, wrapped in mache and jammed into place.

Dang, you're off to an excellent start with paper mache; wish my first paper mache project turned out that nicely (heck, wish my current paper mache projects turned out that nicely
). The suture lines are very well done!

Wow, very nice job there. I like the jawless skull look too although you say a jaw is almost done.
I've seen such nice paper maché work here on the Forum and one of these days I'm going to take the plunge and pick up this skill. Lots of inspiration out there. IC Dedpeeple, can't wait to see other projects you do. You have a nice eye for this stuff.

Well done ! I like the texture you got (Paper towels?) I make all my skulls from paper mache. With a good sealer it can be as durable as any. I also like the teeth you made there. Are you going to use it as a skull prop...or will you "corpse" over it later ?

WOW, thanks for all the great comments!!!
I'm always inspired and encouraged by you all.
Mad Mad Mark: you're very close. the texture is a single layer of toilet paper strips, "painted" on using mache paste. The suture marks are done with a flathead screwdriver (tedious as heck, but effective). I haven't decided yet whether I'll use the skull "as-is" or corpse over it later...all I do know for sure is that I'll be creating a mold from it.
If I'm feeling ambitious enough, I hope to create the rest of the skeleton too.
