Hey, everyone! I was wondering: does anyone have any ideas on how to create scents for a home haunt? I'm doing a "Gothic Carnival" theme this year. I was hoping to make the Haunt smell like cotton candy and popcorn to add atmosphere and really draw in visitors. If anyone has suggestions, I'll be more than grateful. Thanks. Long Live Hallowe'nen!

Sinister Scents (Dream Reapers - Sinister Scents, Shop the On-Line Store) has a lot of different smells available. Only thing is, the stuff's not cheap.

Have you considered just popping your own popcorn outside or in your haunt? Nothing like the real thing!

I'd think about experimenting. Like investing in a small dip-size crockpot if you have access to an outlet near where you want the smells to emanate from then adding something like popcorn salt to water, or cotton candy mix to water and heating it and seeing if it gives you the fragrance you're looking for--sort of like the realtor baking chocolate chip cookies before an open house. I know they make a number of scented candles but a lit candle probably isn't a smart way to go.

Dollar General stores carry a perfume that is cotton candy scented. It really does smell like it too. If you don't have one of those stores check in toys for little girls perfumes and you should be able to find something, maybe even melt down flavored chapstick. You can put the perfume in one of those potpourri warmers. My mom told me once that stores used to put perfume in tabletop fountains and that kept it circulating and sent it thru the whole place. I haven't checked it out yet tho' so I can't say how well it works.

I have purchased the cotton candy perfume from Walmart and have to say it really does smell like cotten candy and it keeps its smell for quite some time. I would also use this in a warming dish, it should work nicely for you.

Just cook some fresh popcorn the night of your haunt. Then place around the areas.

BURN the popcorn and I guarantee the scent will linger all night. The building I work at is the size of a mall but if someone burns popcorn in the breakroom you smell it all through the building for days.
