OK, it's been a while but you know how sometimes RL forces you to drop the Halloween prep in favor of the collapsing kitchen floor.

Anyway, I came into a completely unless lot of large plaster ceramic molds. And a huge 220 kiln which I can't use because the house is 120, but that's another story. I can't not use these molds for what they are intended and it seems the world is over it's love of slip casting because I had trouble even giving some of these things away. Seriously, you'd think the art department of a school that already had kilns and potters wheels so you know they have clay, would be happy to get a few dozen molds donated to them, but no they acted like I was pushing off my problems on to them. Which I was but that's besides the point.

So, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, so I have these plaster molds and I was thinking of using them to cast some outdoor props. For instance, there's a swan that would look great as stone, but from what I've read, pouring concrete into the mold would end up destroying it and I'd like to have 2 swans. I was thinking maybe I could use that casting resin they sell at crafts stores, but I don't know if that would work without hurting the mold. Whether I'd have to use a releasing agent, or maybe I could coat the mold with polyurethane?
I'm feeling rather adventurous about this, but OTOH I really don't like things that spontaneously combust.
