Would anyone please tell me what would be or what they use as a projector for prop such as a Madame Leota, Singing pumpkins or anything else? If I am going to spend money on this prop, I want to make sure I get the right items needed. I was looking at the AAXA P1 Pocket Projector but was not sure if the 12 lumens would be bright enough. Any help would be great full.
For singing pumpkins, you really need a good projector with at least 1800 lumen output. For a Madame Leota, Some of the better LED projectors work fine on. May I suggest this:
It's inexpensive, and will do what you want. A good way to start out and experiment. I've used video projection in shows for the last 4 years, so I've learned a few things.
Thanks Mindshaft. Do you think the 12 LED lumens would be enough to project for Madame Leota? Any ideas on how far away I would be able put the projector?
How about for GGG? Any idea on a projector for that?
I do have one of the Ultraprojector. I got mine when they first came out. Yes, it does work well but I was hoping to use something smaller - easer to hide. If all else fails, I will use the ultraprojector – I am happy with that except for the size. (see size does matter)
I've got one of the P1 projectors, use it for my small Hallowindow display. It's a nice projector for what it is, but if you're wanting to do something large, I would suggest getting something with at least 1200 lumen output. The P1 looks great when it's close to the screen or whatever you're projecting onto, but since there's no zoom other than moving the projector forwards or backwards, as you move back, you lose a lot of the clarity and colors begin to appear washed out. In my experience so far with the P1, if it is in a pitch black room it does well. Any ambient light tends to wash it out the video.
I've thought about experimenting with it further to see how well it could handle a Madame Leota or singing pumpkin/busts setup, but haven't done so yet. I just don't think it would be practical unless you can do it in a completely dark lights out situation.
On the positive side, you can upload your video to the projector. No need to connect a DVD player or other device up to it.
Yeah that's the problem with projectors, size vs output. The LED projectors are getting better though. The other drag is fan noise on a larger projector. It's going to be tough to find a universal projector. It's sort of a per application thing.
Hey Bill, that projector you suggested is right up my alley in price......I was planning on suspending a sheet over the opening of my garage to project Hallowindows on ( all my windows are too skinny, I believe)...the Hallowindows site says to use at least 2000 lumens, but the ultraprojector puts out 900 lumens I believe. Do you think it will still be suitable? I really don't want to drop tons of cash on a projector that we won't use very often!
Bill ...so the ultra projectors don't have zooms? I know you could probably add one on go to lumen labs.com might take some fanaggling...but. Sounds like to you can't plug your laptop directly into them and have it play, have to record the clip and download on sd card guessing.
900 lumens should be fine unless you have a street light right in front. As for the storage, the ultraprojector has built in memory, you just upload your vid to it, turn it off then back on and your video loops. Cheap and simple. Like I say, there are much better projectors, but this is a great starter unit to get your feet wet with.
I would suggest looking for a used DLP projector on ebay. I found one myself, that had 1800 hours on a 2000 hour lamp for about 300 bucks. It really was the best haunt investment ever. I've been using it for five years now in my home to watch movies. Having a real projector and not one of those fisher price holiday projectors will give you a lot more flexiblity. I created the effects in the pictures I attached. Good luck!
