Hi all! Long time no haunt!!!
I found this cool little 3D paper skull thingy online and built one. Looks pretty good, but it's awfully small, so I tossed it in photoshop, removed all the color and enlarged it to lifesize.
I made a few modifications to the original design, added a few more pieces to the face to help "sculpt" it a bit more, and then made another one out cereal box cardboard....now I have a pretty sweet new armature for paper mache. I'm hoping to actually start the paper mache this weekend, time permitting.
In the meantime, I did trace and cut all the pieces into a sheet of thin plastic, so making more skulls will be quick and easy. BTW, the finished product will have an articulated lower jaw.
Anyway, here's where I got the original paper design (it's free to download and print)...

(the author claims the paper model is life-sized....ummm.....no.
And here's some pics of my modified version...
I hope ya likes!![]()

Very cool is yours now larger than a human skull? I have been thinking about doing a stalkaround and want a big skull for it so if I cant find one for a decent price I may just have to make one. Keep us updated.

Man, that looks cool and easy to make with minimal if no mess. Before the mache or corpsing of course. Sweet and perfect for lite weight props.

Update #1 –

Ok, I've got the 1st and second thin applications of paper mache done. I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised. The pics below don't seem to show it well, but even after the 1st application, the skull's face was looking surprisingly realistic (for paper mache, that is).
I added a tube inside the skull to allow for easier mounting when finished.
....waddaya know....finally a useful purpose for those annoying flyers and those empty toilet paper rolls. LOL
All in all, so far I'm quite pleased with my 1st attempt at armatures and paper mache (which isn't to say that I'm not open to constructive criticism).
