New technology - not the usual LED's –

Billman thanks for the video. It really helps showcase the amazing new technology of these candles.
I too own the large Martha Stewart candelabra along with the LED blood drip candles, as well as a plethora of other assorted flameless LED's. But these candles ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT then anything else I had seen on the market. I think they look amazing (at least online) I am eager to see what Haunt1000 thinks of them since he/she has ordered them. I am very happy with all of the flameless candles I already own, but these really intrigued me. Unfortunately I will have to wait until the cost comes down a lot, or people here can figure out to duplicate!!! They really look totally different then any of the existing candles on the market today...but that's not surprising since the concept originates from Disney!

I'm curious to see the mechanics of it close up. In one of the shots you can see the that flame is actually a flat 2 dimensional shape. Looks like a small cutout of colored silk.
I'm wondering if it just pivots on a swivel and is blown by a small fan inside the candle, or if it's more directly moved by a motor. I've seen some cool stuff done in the past using non-LED lights, that produce heat when operated. You can user the rising heat to move silk.
Anyone seen these close up, or know what's going on inside?

The flame is a piece of thin metal that pivots on a gimbal. I understand that the counterweight is controlled by a set of magnets driven by a circuit that randomly activates the magnets so that there's no discernable pattern to the movement. The flame you see is the reflection of the light on the metal. The illusion only works well when viewed from the proper angle.
I...have many names...

I made mention of this on the other thread about these candles but if you look at the close up on the Frontgate website and really zoom in on the picture of the candle top you can clearly see the "flame" suspended by a small rod. Here's the link.
I have to say that I feel that Otaku is right on in the description of how this works. If you look at the video of the candles by the pool on this page from the manufacturer, I think you'll see it's a rather rocking motion of the "flame" if you catch it at the angle they filmed it at. And blow the video up to full screen by clicking on the 4 diagonal arrows icon at the far right bottom of the video to really see it close up in action. Also read the 10/11/10 firefighters review under News (see left side of page for link).

Finally they are selling them...well, after November 5th. I just saw them at Disney and I must admit, I was underwhelmed. From the distance of the Doom Buggy they just looked like the normal flickering LED lights you see all the time. I'm thinking they are better utilized when you can go right up to them. I'm gonna get one to complete my realistic candles tutorial I made last January and report in. Here's the tut: Realistic Electric Flickering Pillar Candles

They sold out earlier. The Nov 5 date will be a restock. A HF member said he bought some before they sold out and is waiting for delivery.
