I've always assumed plaster once hardened has the same consistency of chalk or wallboard being brittle and crumbles, so I've shied away from it. But I'm thinking of trying some molding and doing it cheaply. I'm familier with the technique but no experience (i.e. gauze backing).
So before buying materials if anyone has tips or comments on using plaster please chime in!
Thanks in advance!![]()

Look into Hydrosone. It's far more durable than common plaster and the price is not bad. Here in Seattle it's $30.00 for 50lbs.

Ultracal-30 is what I use for moldmaking...good stuff, and reasonably priced (I think it was about $1/lb.)

Is either used as the mold and/or form?

yeah, it's only worth it to buy plaster locally. I did get ultracal-30 from Monstermakers.com once, and the shipping wasn't too bad
Yubney, to the best of my knowledge, as long as you follow the soft mold/hard cast and hard mold/soft cast principle, you can use any plaster for a mold or cast
