So for halloween this year I want to make a containment zone with zombie and whatnot...and i want to make a scene where a tv is in some rubble but still has the news channel playing...and reporting of the toxic in the air and how it is turning everyone into zombies! So i was wondering if anyone knew where to find fake news reels about a toxic spill or zombie attacks or to "stay indoors". those kind of sayings but in news form. Or would it be easier to make it myself and have it loop over and over.
and also, i want to create the effect of an Army helicopter flying over the house pointing a serachllght down to the ToTers and announcing that there was a toxic gas in the air and to not breathe it in...etc...so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to make a searchlight "scour" the neighborhood. Or should i just by a DMX Intelligent scanner of some sort to give the illusion!
Any suggestions wanted/needed.
thanks guys!
happy haunt planning!

You could go retro and just play the Night Of The Living Dead news broadcast scene on a loop.

I'd say make it yourself to capture the elements you want to highlight. I did a quick search on YouTube for "toxic spill" and "industrial explosion" and a few other phrases, and kind of liked these clips. I'd suggest searching with the word "news" also if you do a seach. Here in the north SF Bay Area there are always breaking news stories on local channels of refinery fires, spills and warning system alerts with shelter in place. Maybe you could check a news website for stories they've done of such events.
These probably aren't what you need but may give you some ideas for putting together a newscast if you go that route. Personally I'd go for a news anchor in the foreground and have a TV screen behind them showing the footage. That way if you found footage you wanted to use you could just play it without any audio and just have the anchor explain what they were seeing, plus you wouldn't need as high of a quality of video for those images.

I'm going to be doing a similar scanning white light in my haunt this year and I'm thinking of picking this up. It's about $150: American DJ LED BEAM SCAN White LED DMX Oscilating Pinspot - PlanetDJ.com

That is neat! 250 watts though.... Well, I'll keep that in mind because the flexibility is really nice.

I love the idea of the helicopter, I would say if you could hook up several speakers, you could do a surround sound effect to get it so it was "flying" overhead. I would say a two axis mechanism could work, may be cheaper than a DJ light. What would be amazing would be if you hooked up an Axeworthy-type mechanism and flew the two axis search light over the scene like it was flyign overhead. Even a stationary light would work in that situation.
Lets see....Magic, miniature horses, penguins, lacrosse, volleyball, and Halloween
.......what, you seem suprised?

These are all great ideas guy, thank you!! I think it would be really cool if i could workout a deal with my neighbors and somehow link the speakers and lights up together and put them on their houses...and since we live on a cul-de-sac, it would seem like as the tots walk up to the house (im in the middle of the street) they would have to pass under these searchlights, and sounds warning them not to go!
thats just my head working and working. heehee
does anyone have any ideas also of what kind of scene i could create? I was thinking just total chaos and wreckage with crumbling buildings and whatnot.

For the helicopter light you could do an axworthy rig. Instead of a ghost hook up several powerful LEDs with a battery power source. It should give the floating look of a helicopter spotlight and be way cheaper than DJ equipment.
Also, you could do guard post spotlights with an oscillating fan with LEDs on that.

Old tires laying around and ALOT of fog, (unchilled so as to fill the air), police tape and some DJ siren lights on top of a white sedan would contribute to the illusion. Cop Zombies would be a nice touch, having some in the car, some bodies on the ground. Large chunks of foam painted to look like building rubble laying around. Toxic barrels overturned with ooz leaching out, old funiture like chairs and a couch laying on thier sides outside like they were blown out of the home. If you have the skills to dismantle your garage door and have it leaning out the wrong way askew, you could do that. Just throwing ideas out.
