I hope I'm posting in the correct area (this time, woops!).
Hi group. Requesting a little help here on mechanics in motion. I'll try to spell this out in words as best I can. If I were to use a a screen door closer (this is just theory so don't worry about safety yet) as a pneumatic ram and the length of the shaft was say 10 inches I would get 10 inches of distance for movement and say 5 pounds of lifting power (remember just theory here).
I know there are ways to use things like scissor lifts to change the distance an object would move or increase the power available for lifting.
My question is where are the www links or "how tos" on this data?
Also any suggestions (links, how to's & sales) on the pneumatic parts would be appreciated.
I'd like to do things right (read safely) but every pneumatic ram or cylinder I've found is very expensive once you go much further than a few inches. So I would like to be able to use a smaller device with an amplification method to get more distance and or power.
Thanks to all for looking at my question,
Sparkey
PS. Yes I've read the excellent pneumatic data on this forum and it is VERY helpful on setting things up.

Buy a cylinder for a tractor bucket at a farm supply store $58 for one with 10 inches stroke, hook it up to compressed air, put some automatic transmission fluid in it first for some lubrication.
Yes, they are neavy and big but they won't poop-out because they are made to operate on 2,500 pounds of pressure and you are only using 120 at best.
This is our little secret so don't tell anybody.

Just looked on eBay and saw several air cylinders with 10" stroke in the $20 - $30 range. If you don't see what you want, wait a few days. I've purchased dozens of air cylinders, valves, regulators, etc. this way.
