I am looking for new things to do with my display next year and just saw this video.

YouTube - Halloween 2009-DMX Lightshow with VenueMagic DJ Edition

I love how these small ghost pop up and down really fast. You can see them the best at 1:30 into the video.

I really don't know how to achieve this effect so if anybody could point me to a web site or explain how to do something like this, that would be great.

    Thanks.

My guess is a burst of air. You can see the rods they slide up and down on in parts of the video.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

Ha! I found this as well and LOVE the ghosts! Has anyone had success making it? Any ideas for making a non-air version? Car antennas perhaps?

I remember seeing this on You Tube as well. I asked the owner how it was done. He didn't give any specific details but he said it was done using a DMX activated pneumatics solenoids

The ghosts were handkerchiefs attached to styrofoam balls that slid up and down the metal rods. The balls used soda straws as bushings that rode up and down the rods. Pretty ingenious really. I found it rather whimsical. Great timing with the DMX events

Pneumatics is definately the way to go from a setup and control point of view. Don't think the car antenna would work fast enough. I believe the airtube is just attached to the base of the rod (pointing up, of course). The handkerchief and soda straw "ghost" is left to simply slide up and down the rod without any other connection to the rig. I suppose you would have to control the amount of air ( or rig some sort of stop on the end of the rod) in order not to blow him right off the top of the rod.

I have the Venuemagic software. Its great.Controls all DMX lights, props, audio
effects. Easy to use. If your looking for an easy interface DMX controller. This is it. Its timeline based, like windows movie maker. Works good with entec open.

As far as the ghosts go, wouldn't the air burst be too loud?
