Last year in New Jersey it was very windy and raining for Halloween. My tombstones ended up being a huge chore to pick up and re-stick in the ground every 5 - 10 minutes. The black plastic pegs that come with them really is not worth the plastic it is made from. Has anyone found a better solution to stick the tombstone in the ground?

    Thanks:

I use 3/4" PVC. I bore a hole up into the bottom of the tombstone about 1' deep, then glue in a 2' piece of PVC

My only concern is that with bad wind will it just rip apart the tombstone?

we get a lot of wind here so I put pvc into the stone and put them over rebar pounded in the ground. We often get 30 to 50 mile gusts from the Columbia River Gourge and the stones hold.
Eventhough I am Dead it is always warm inside my bed.

I use a couple of patio-type bricks and either hot-glue or use adhesive to attach them to the bottom of the tombstone. Then i dress around the base of the tombstone to hide the brick. The wind may blow them over and cause them to flutter but i haven't had any major complaints thus far........just my method. I also plan to make more, larger tombstones in the future and make a hollow bottom on them that i will either fill with a) sand b)gravel or c) build the bricks inside.

all the new stones im making this year are 2 pcs. of 2.5 foam sandwiched between a 2x2 frame with the end pertruding out about a foot, then im putting another piece running across the top so i can pound them in and not worry about hiting the foam.

We use rebar for ALL of our tombstones. We almost ALWAYS get santa ana winds here in socal sometime in the two weeks before halloween, with winds that aren't fast, but strong. We had twice as many stones this year, so we tried to get away with pieces of poplar, but they just crumbled and cracked under the strain of the winds. We had to go get more rebar to fix the fallen ones... Even with the cheap $5 tombstones from walmart you can use rebar. =)
How many days do I have left?

Every year someone asks about this. The best way is pvc and rebar. MIne stood up to 40 mile per hour winds last year that knock down a ton of other stuff. The tombstones stayed put.

We use the hard metal wire clothes hangers. We just unbend it so it's straight stick it in the bottom center of the tombstone and it works great. It's very cheap and the winds this year did not knock them over and there were a few nasty wind gust.
halloween is a super cool holiday.
