I have three celing fan motors and have no idea what I can do with them. We are doing a carnival themed haunt this year and I thought about using one to run a ferris wheel. Has anyone ever used one to run a MIB?

ethey can be used to power an Axworthy Flying Ghost. Check the archives for more info.

    Good luck!

Good question. I'm working on props for a circus theme also; and I currently have a ceiling fan whose remote transmitter doesn't work (bad part inside) and we are thinking of replacing the fan with a different unit anyway. So I might end up with one to use also.

I wonder if you could rig some light weight ghosts or something like that to the ends of the blades and set up one of those spinning swing-type seat rides. Don't know what they are called but I always see them at carnivals or amusement parks.

If you have a really slow speed, or better yet a remote controlled ceiling fan that has adjustable speed, I wonder if you could create a spinning game wheel using foamboard maybe. That or maybe a foamboard wheel with a lightweight prop attached to it as in a knife throwing display.

If your carnival is going to have a mind reading booth maybe you could use the fan motor to create one of those spinning wheels that I've seen in movies where they try to hypnotize someone with one. Use it "outside" the tent/booth to draw attention to the area. You know kind of "step right in and be hypnotized by Sergei the Great". Use along with some poster of someone being hypnotized.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was worried about the torque issue as well. Back to the drawing board.

    Hmmm....
    How about:
    > A bat flying in circles.
    > Spinning laser lights. (Spin a green pen light shinning through fog at ground level)
    > Turn upside down and have a skull with red glowing eyes spinning slowly (i'm not sure if this one will work)
    > Turn upside down. Take a red laser and point it up through fog to make red columns for a devils lair.

I've used one to create a Whirl and Hurl, a la Boney Island. I used a candy corn color scheme, but you could adapt to other themes as well. Has hung on for a few years now.

I put a ceiling fan motor in a wooden crate. put a weight on 1 arm...
Painted "Caution: Livestock" and "To: China"
Speaker in the box with a few holes for the sound to get out.
Got my son's friend to record a few bits: "please mommy, don't send me to China, I am allergic you rice" and "I'm so sorry mommy, I didn't see Miss Kitty in the microwave"

    I called it the JimmieBox.

I live across the street from an elementary school, about 100 ft. from the crosswalk. Between the shaking box and the typical crosswalk stupidity of drivers, there were 2 car accidents from the JimmieBox.

Be careful. Celing fan motors aren't made for large loads and can overheat if overtaxed.
