I have have a Paasche

that has lasted for years and years and still works great with a new part every now and then like nozzles or needleshttp://theyard.netii.net/

I like my badger brush because I can get my needles at michaels if I bend the tips, I have the Anthem 155. They have seem to go up in price, I got mine for 70 but here is one of the better deals Badger 155-7 Deluxe Anthem Airbrush Set
Get a decent compressor, I have a Paasche compressor and it just hums along. I used to use my shop compressor and it would have inconsistent pressures. We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside of us

I have one like this,A bit pricey but it works great. The gravity fed gun requires very small amounts of paint in cup to use and having its own compressor makes it a breeze to use anywhere.I prefer the feel of this style gun and the dual action adds good control when you get used to it.I posted this as an example, better deals may be out there.

I'm still a newbie but I asked a lot of people what I should get and I ended up getting the Iwata HP-BCS. Because of the nature of how I use it (prop building) it gave me a lot of flexibility. I generally paint larger items and go through paint faster. So, the bottom feeder allows me to attach a pretty large bottle so I don't have to refill a lot but I can still get good detail work.
Now that I'm an airbrush fan, I'm going to get more specialized brushes. A close-up detail brush and a spray gun.

This question has been raised several times here on the forum, and i think most of of the "airbrush virgins" have been happy with the advice they have received from the experienced airbrush users here.
If you go to "search" and type in "Airbrush", you'll find lots of relevant threads.
Here's a fairly recent one to get you started.
