tried to make a faux hole in my siding after seeing a similiar project on HauntProjects. But I'm just not feeling it. Supposed to be the inside frame of the house. What can I do to fix it to make it look real? Thank you, very much, in advance!!!
UPDATE:
I made the edge jagged and added insulation. It's getting there, but still not happy.

I don't know....it looks pretty realistic to me at first glance.
Maybe rough up the edges a little with broken pieces of siding. Might add a bit of that pink insulation material here and there.
You could even run a few feet of electrical wiring along one of the wooden beams.
Great idea! I've never seen that illusion before. Thanks!
Do you have the link to that prop?

Doesn't look horrible, but I can see why you aren't crazy about it.
Depending on the type of siding: wood or vinyl, I suggest you 'bring' that element into your hole. A hole busted into a wall would not leave a smooth edge. You could try using foam to make the siding come across the opening. Maybe keeping the element of the hole from being too rounded as well.
Hope that helps.Keetah mi pharos aja nilo, isirian.

My first impression is that it looks too perfect. A hole broken in the siding would have rough, jagged edges. I think that would help sell the illusion.

If I were you I'd make a new section of that wall between the post and the other wall! buy new siding at Home Depot and build a framework that drops into that spot. put the hole in the new matching siding including insulation and such. You could even make a monster or some other prop come out of the hole!!
Edit: I just came back from the depot and siding is $6.97 a 12' section...so $21ish should get you enough siding to build the fake wall

if it were me, I would make a replica of that area of wall then bust a hole in the replica and make it look as you like and then edge it up to your real wall.......kind of like a second layer.....it would cost a bit more but it would look better.
edit: maybe thats what Toymaker was saying, I'm not surehttp://theyard.netii.net/

I have to agree with everyone else. It does look too perfect. Another suggest might be to scrap the studed look for a raggedly edged empty hole because not many haunted houses have bright fresh wood looking studs.
Maybe you could make just a plain black hole and use your faux boarding technique like your windows to place over it like a really bad patch job. Just a thought....

Your updated pic looks even better than the first. At that distance it looks real to me. Enough to get any HOA up in arms!

When I look at it I see a hole that looks like it goes in but the insulation comes out. Just seems to contradicate my senses. Is the hole inward or outward?
When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.
