well, now that x-mas is over I have a huge undertaking ahead of me for halloween 2010. I am hosting a wedding. I want to build a chapel in my yard (for a reading from the Book of the Dead of course, hahha) but sort of stumped on a direction. Has anyone on here built a chapel of sorts??? I want to keep it as a permanent part of our haunt each year but at the same time, it needs to be a lttle special I have a dozen ideas. Thats just the problem. A dozen ideas and they are all swirling and crashing...lol.

I have never built a permanent wedding chapel, but I am very interested to see how this turns out. Make sure to keep us posted on the progress. I would also be interested to find out what the city building inspector here would say if I were to do something like this.

I would start with checking out some of the crypts people here on the forum have done. I myself have a pic of a crypt on my profile that could help you with ideas, of course I would definately extend the depth of it and add some arched windows. Some people on here though really have done some amazing things with crypts, I would search that first and see what comes up, again just use it as a sounding board so to speak keeping in mind you can extend where necessary. I would then think about seating and of course some type of alter.

Also keep in mind that a Halloween wedding doesnt necessarliy mean satanic wedding. you may want to find out what direction the couple wants to go in. If there looking for something more demonic then thats fine but if they are looking for a wedding with a Halloween atmosphere then you might want to keep that in mind.

Again I would start with searching on here for crypts first to give you a start on the ideas and pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease dont forget to post pics when you get started so we can see

I have seen the pictures. South of Dubuque, Iowa is a cave open for tours (admission charged)
and some people have gotten married in there.
Before imaginations get too fantastic, this is not a large place at all and to see about ten people crammed into a very narrow rock room looks more "Horrific" to me than celebratory.
(And they are all wearing pretty clothes too!)
Of course maybe All wedding ceremonys are supposed to be horrific? If we were paying attention.
A few couples have expressed an intrest in getting married here, in The Ravens Grin Inn haunted house.
    It hasn't happened yet.
    Oh well?

It's outdoors, maybe grave yard entry archways with angels that can later be modified to demons. I like the crypt idea, but I think it might be too small. If the weather is a problem rent a tent and decorate as appropriate. Collums for the post for the tent, skull lighting and chandaliers. Lots of food ideas in that forum. Fog machine, creepy walk down the isle music. Strobe lights blue moon lighting. A few guest dressed as Zombies scattered about. A toe pincher coffin for a bar. Cheap silk flowers from Wally's spray painted black, brown and burgundy. Wedding dress from Salvation Army appropriately distressed. Best man and maid of honor in matching vampire outfits with capes. Spider webs all over. Keeping the gore down and focusing on the creepy. Small tomb stones as with table nunbers. Aged wedding pamphlet (paper aged and edges burned.) Have a photographer set up in a "creepy spot" to take guest pictures, maybe with FCG, buckie, corpse, zombie in background. Beetlejuice can make an apperance, or officiate.
Ahh I wish I was there...

well its certainly going to be in my yard. But I want to make it (whatever I end up building) so its part of our haunt every year. Not sure how many people. The fun couple wants everyone in costume as is our way at my house. They are leaving it up to us....my choices...gothic capel,, funerary..was thinking egyptian maybe...crypt (zombie theme)...hmmmm....good ideas here too though...wow...now to start putting it all together

You might look into more of a gazebo, rather than a full chapel. It's still a large structure and can be decorated in a variety of ways, but it will be easier to construct and store.
