I have been looking at the changing portraits that are offered at haunt supply stores on-line. They look very good and creepy. Anyone here have one ?
And if so, are you satisfied with it ? I found a lot of FAQ 's about them....however the one question I had, I found no answer to.
Can anyone tell me how long will this prop last (keep changing it's image) ?
Also can you recommend the best place for the best price on this type of prop?
Thanks all !![]()

I believe they are Lenticulars. Two images divided into "strips" to make one picture. A special lens is applied over the interlaced picture. Now the interlaced pictures are only viewable from certin angles. Google it, I suck at explaining, LOL.

Yes I think that must be it. The ad's I saw were not to clear about the construction. They do look good though. (I'm such a low-tech kinda guy
)
So, HAS anyone bought one ? Are you satisfied with it ? The best place/price ?"Imagination is the theater of the mind wherein true horror is enacted and nightmares become reality" - Vincent Price

i've bought a few. as for price, you'll have to shop around. at halloween time i have found them at mernards, kmart, target, wal-mart, walgreens, and shopko. these are cheaper ones and usually a thin plastic. they usually run around $5.00 or so.
Changing Portraits to Kill For - Halloween and Gothic Decorations from Haunted Portraits
these are a heavier material. the ones i have are the 5x7s.
here is another site.

i guess i'm very picky when i buy mine. i want to be able to look straight on and see the normal face. i want to see the abnormal face as i walk away. if the normal face isn't front face i don't buy them. i bought a few and they were great. then i bought one and it was the monster i saw first, i sent it back and requested one that i felt was right. i got one plus a letter, they basically felt i was to picky. so when i bought another it wasn't what i felt was right, so i sent it back and got a refund. i quit buying them from that company. i'm very happy with the ones i do have.

Thanks for the info everyone. And thanks for the links and for your insights Hallorenecene !
And in my opinion no your not too picky at all. Like most consumers , I'm sure you work hard for your money (certainly in this economy)
...so you SHOULD get just the type of product you want and nothing less. That's kinda why I was looking for some feedback/evaluations of this product. (The again, could be I'M the picky one !

( LOL) Thanks again.

no, i don't think either of us are to picky. if you buy some and they are a certain quality, you are going to expect that quality. to me if you look at it and it's the monster right away, it kills the element of surprise. it should be normal and then creepy as you walk away.

In my humble opinion, the ones from Ghoulish Gallery are THE BEST!!! They are a bit pricey, but their quality is unsurpassed. I bought one at Transworld a couple of years ago, and it is fantastic!

There are now several different people making these .
I have seen some differences in them, "Good " or "Bad" is mostly personal taste as far as subject matter and presentation. Do you want gross, scary, ghostly, odd?
(And what would your patrons tolerate?)
I had several batches of the 5 by 7 ones I sold a few years ago but then pretty soon even antique stores began selling them, along with the numerous stores previously mentioned and there went to fun of the "New" and the thrill of something found "Not Common".
I believe it is the Haunted Memories Co. that will do a personal picture , send him three pictures of yourself in slightly different poses and he will add the flames, fangs, messed-up body parts, nasty expression...last I heard this was a 5 or 6 hundred dollar piece of work.
I suggested a motion switch operating a talking chip co-ordinated with the viewing angle add a small vibrator and these items could really come alive!
All battery operated, of course since haunted venues are shielded from picking up solar power.
A changing, growling, vibrating picture on your wall!
Just like my Mother-Law's picture I once had!
