Hello everyone,
I've seen countless threads here about making a mask. I thought of something along the lines of that yesterday and I want to hear opinions or if there are any other ways to do this...
I thought maybe if I put modeling clay on my face, I could get the image of my face, then I could change in up, add some wrinkles and stuff to achieve a scary looking face that I could build a prop out of.
Are there any other / more efficient and inexpensive ways to do this.
Thanks in advance,
the halloweenie

Make a life cast, then make a plaster positive of your face. It may seem harder and more expensive, but in the long run you have a lifecast of your face to do so much more with. It is a valuable tool to have if you even want to dip you feet into the pool of mask making. I am just getting into silicone free form mask making since I don't have a lifecast of my face to do foam latex with. Wish you luck dont be scared away by anything, just research alot.

Thanks for the links Mr. Chicken and Yubney they are very helpful. I'm going to definatly use those tutorials for help! How much do you think it would cost to, for example, make a mask (materials)?
Thanks,

Just a thought......One other option you may want to try if you don't want anything to fancy and just a nice mask, don't overlook the merits of good ol paper and glue.
You can make a very simple mask by covering your face with heavy tin foil. Press it in to all fetchers ,eye sockets, cheek bones, nose etc. Lift off the foil mask, then put on a layer of paper mache strips. Let it dry hard then put another layer, let dry and so on.
By letting each layer dry the foil will hold it's shape and not collapse from the weight of lots of layers applied all at once.
When you feel it is thick and strong enough, then you can set to work changing it's face with clay or plaster to make it as gruesome as your little black heart desires (insert evil laugh here) And it's very CHEAP! As I said, just a thought.

Looks like Monster Makers is selling a complete kit now for $75: Turn Your Face into a Monster Mask Kit - Halloween Mask Making Kits - LATEX MASK MAKING KITS - The Monster Makers
You could probably get all the parts on your own for less, but they're a really good company, and Arnold, the owner, will help you with anything you need.

Mad Mad Mark, That's genious! A couple of days ago, I started making a paper mache baloon head. (I have no artistic abilities) So I don't know where to start with details for the face, I love this idea, it's exatly what I was looking for, and hey, the price is alright

Mr Chicken, That's going on my b-day list!
