Yes, I too have been looking at skulls. For me I have decided to buy a lindberg or bucky skull as a model for paper mache duplicates. I had found a link (I can't remember if it was here or another forum) that gives a good tutorial .
It is not all that hard, and paper and glue are cheap ( free !) With a good sealer you CAN use it outdoors and you can make all the skulls you could ever use.
The one link I found said it takes about an hour to cover the model skull. You must cut the paper "shell" off the model skull when dry (you now have 2 one half skull pcs.) then put it back together and paper over the seam where the cut was. The more layers of paper you use the stronger it will be.
If your like me ,and you have more time than $$$$ this may be an option to consider. Sorry I can't find the "how to " link right now, but someone here may remember it.......or do a google search."Imagination is the theater of the mind wherein true horror is enacted and nightmares become reality" - Vincent Price

I saw a post where people were getting a large order together to qualify for the discount price but many people were ordering 10 here, 20 there, 5 there, etc....

We buy foam skulls from Michaels. I signed up for their e-mail list, and they send coupons every week, usually 40%, but sometimes 50% off. That makes them $3.00 each. We now have a whole box full of skulls at our disposal.

I got mine at Michael's and Party City, they look the same but the Party City ones are made out of a different material. I got them at 50% off after Halloween ($3ea), I have a box of them too....

Hi cliff.
I'm not sure if the post you are referring to may have been one of mine.
If so, it probably won't be much use to you, seeing as I'm in the UK...
I managed to negotiate a reasonable discount by ordering a bulk quantity of 10 polystyrene skulls (the sort you may find in Walmart or similar) from a local fancy dress store.
This was a private deal that I struck with the store manager.
It may be worth going this route, and seeing what you can negotiate with local retailers if you can't find any deals or discounts advertised.
