It's a slow night, too cold to make a prop, so I got to thinking that I would like to try and make a spider web, 5-6 feet, out of something thinner than the yarn I typically use. Has anyone ever tried using something like fishing line? To me, fishing line resembles a web more than yarn. Does it sound impossible? Would the fishing line be too thin to be seen? I think with enough strands circling it, like a real web, it would be seen. Is there something better than yarn? Is it ridiculous? Just thinking out loud. What do y'all think? And, no I haven't had any Mudslides tonight. LOL Thank you!![]()

I've seen them made out of cotton clothesline before. It's especially good if you're going to use a black-light so you can (RIT) dye it to have it glow really well.
Having had a heck of a time tying fishing line while fishing, I can't say that I'd recommend it for this project since there's a lot of knot tying involved. If you want to use something clear but a little thicker, what about the cord they use to make beaded bracelets (it's rubbery & stretchy). Though that too is a little tricky to tie as well...(hmmm, guess I'm not really helping too much!)
How visible do you want it to be? Is it something people will be standing next to, or seen from far away? That may guide you somewhat in figuring out what thickness to make it out of.
What ever you make, post up a pic. And good luck (I have no patience for this sort of thing)!Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

I have a spool of glow in the dark nylon thread from JoAnn fabrics that should make a cool web...it might be easier to work with than fishing line.

Thank you all for your ideas!! 'preciate it.
The web will be about 10" from the street. And I would like to make it so it can be re-used for 2-3 years. But most importantly, I want something that looks a little more realistic than yarn. Will try y'all's ideas! Thanx, again!

I kind of made one with fishing wire. I bought one of those nylon large spider webs and realized that it wasn't nearly big enough. So I made it larger by attaching the fishing wire and then putting stretchy webbing over it. I also went over the whole nylon web with fishing wire because I loved how it reflected the light (like a real web):
For another web, I staked a perimeter of sticks in the ground and used fishing wire to make a support structure for the stretchy webbing. Lasted all month with me re-stretching a few places every week:
