Most trash cans made of metal are made from galvanized steel. Galvanized steel is designed to resist rust. Thus your attempt to weather it rapidly may prove difficult.

You can do a search on aging galvanized steel. I won't provide the advice here.

you could burn it off with an oxt/act. brazing tip.those fumes that it puts off are very toxic though.the galvinizing will have some peeling around it that can be cleaned off with a wire brush.to keep the metal from warping badly use a wet rag and wipe it while its hot.

    Exactly.

High heat or acids can break down the galvanize. But care must be taken. We are talking toxic fumes in either case.

Please be cautious. A prop is not worth your health or possibly your life.

How about an angle grinder and a sanding pad? Scuff off the galvanized coating, and it'll start to rust fast.
