I guess that really depends too on how nuts you want to go? This year I used my 6" metal bandsaw and my tig welder for several props. Definitely Styrofoam cutting and shaping tools like from Hot Wire Foam Factory. I used my tablesaw and skillsaw for cutting wood sheeting. It goes on and on.
My recommendation is to look at what you want to achieve and see what others have used for said project(s) and then you have a good start to what tools you need. This is the best way unless you are rich and can buy tools like nuts, always remembering the handyman phrase "there is a right tool for every job"

Reciprocating saw...that actually sounds really useful as well. But, a skeletons and some skulls sounds like a good way to start, I'll probably start doing that in January.... ohhh man... only 11 months left, what to do? :P
lol I'm already starting to figure out that I'm definitely going to have alot to learn skillswise... I never knew that paper mache would be a useful skill to know one day.
