Hi guys, Here's a project iv 'e wanted to do for a for awhile now. It's a life size storefront klown from the movie killer klowns from outer space.
It took me some time to get the perorations right but I'm happy with him now. The skeleton is a pvc pipe frame. The base is made from plywood and 2x2's and is three inches high. I made the cotton candy cocoon from chicken wire and batting. The head was done by Paul at darkside studio, the hands, costume and shoes are all mass produced items.

The costume had fuzzy pom pom's but i made some flat buttons to more closely resemble the movie klown. It was alot of work and costed more than i thought it would but I'm glad i made him. Let me know what ya think.

OM GOODNESS!! This is FANTASTIC! On Sunday - we drove around hoping to find that some of the Halloween stores might still be open with sales. At a closed for good Halloween Express, I glanced into the dark store to see that the clean-up team had yet to package up all the inventory. Inside - standing in the dark - was a life-size clown that had a very similar look, and it gave me the chills!! Kind of a "post Halloween present!" Looking at yours just now - gave me the creeps again too!! Wonderful and beautifully made. Truly eerie in that so funny I could eat you up kind of way! I think you have a cottage industry in the making! Congrats on a wonderful prop. I may never be able to eat cotton candy again! LOL

Do you have any construction pictures of this?
I've been wanting to create cotton candy cocoons for years but have never figured out how to create them!

Thanks my best guess is around $250.00 -300.00 all togather. The mask was $150.00 but its not a regular halloween type of mask. Its casted super thick, painted really well and dosen't have any eye or breathing holes cut into it.

I've had a few people want to know how to make one but if i tell you the klowns will kill me and drink my blood.

Ok couldn't resist, I was going to but one but i saw a pic of what the mass produced ones look like in person and said no way, i can make one for 1/3the price and it will look twice as good.

Here it is , It's pretty craptacular if you as me. I'm working on a top section with the hook for it but it wont be ready for a while.

Here are the instructions, feel free to ask any questions.

You need to get some small grid chicken wire, two packages of batting, tacky glue, craft wire and some pink spray paint.

What you do first is get a large mixing bowel (about 16" or so) the cut a square of the chicken wire large enough to form it over the bowel.

Next form the square down over the bowel to make a rounded bottom for the cocoon.

Then you make a large cylinder that is the same circumference as the top of the base you made.

Next cut a "V" down the cylinder length wise with the top of the "V" at the top of the cylinder. (you might need to do this twice depending on the overall shape you want) This will make the top of the cocoon smaller than the bottom.

Now use the the craft wire to stitch the cylinder together. ( i just put a piece about every 8 inches down the side and twisted it together with plyers)Now you can use your hands to shape it how you want it to be.

Then just use the craft wire to attache the base to the cylinder.

This is a good time to use wire cutters to cut off any pointy bits of wire that might be poking out.

Now you need to roll out a pack of the batting on a large table.
Drizzle some of the glue over about a 12 inch section of the batting and roll it tightly on to the cocoon. Repeat this until you have the whole thing covered. You will need to cut some small "v" s in the top and bottom so the batting dosent over lap to much when you form it over the rounded areas.

Your will need to to give the whole thing at least three coats of batting to get a good thickness that wont be transparent when in well lighted areas.

It's not really important how the first two layers look but you want to take your time on the last one to get a nice finish.

Now just give it an hour or to to dry then spray it with the pink paint.

Don't get to close with the can or you'll get dark spots. You'll need to give it two or three coats letting each one dry beetween coats.

If you want to add a foot sticking out just grab one at a halloween store. The one i got was hollow so i made a cardboard tube and used hot glue to attach to foot to it then cut a small hole in the cocoon and jammed it in there nice and tight. Then used some hot glue to hold it in place. then ipulled some of the batting over the edge of the foot to hide the edge.

If the cocoon has trouble balancing you can cut a slit of small door in the back then add some rocks or a brick or two to hold it down.
