I have 6 tube televisions size 27 in to 52 in.
Before I donate or recycle these TVS I wanted to know if there are any props that incorporate these type of TVS.
I would hate to get rid of all of these and have to buy one in the future.

My husband has already advised me not to dismantle the Tvs due to the severe risk of shock (and other injuries). And I have no interest in injuring myself.

If a prop requires dismantling the tv, I already have the name and number of my local tv repair shop.

i used one of mine like a projector i stuck it right against the window and covered all the buttons and tv from on the front with black cloth and taped it on then draped a black sheet over the tv on the front (not over the back holes where it lets out heat ) and then taped it to the top and sides that way all you see from the outside is the img on the tv i played one of those scary dvds made it look like a ghost face in the window and i also cut the light off in that room to make it darker very nice cheap prop

Sonicvomit... since you used your like a projector... do you think it could be used in fortune teller props?

propmistress, I was planning on doing the same kind of thing for my haunt next year. The most common method involves a TV, a dvd player, plastic sheeting/plexiglass, and a "window" to work off of.

Big Scream TV has instructions on projecting a video image off of a TV. The first method is laying the tv on its back in front of a window (or a glass/plexi panel in a standalone fortune telling booth, for example) and leaning a sheet of plexiglass at an angle against the TV and the window. The image is reflected on the plexiglass/plastic sheeting, creating the illusion that the video content is floating behind the window. They have a video showing this method step by step:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7lJbXLRFYQ]YouTube - ghostly floating head illusion virtual Hologram[/ame]

The second, third, and fourth method are all for crystal ball set-ups. The second is the same as the first, only you center a plastic ball on a string behind the plexiglass. The third works the same, only the TV is left upright and the plexiglass leans against the side of the TV and the glass. The fourth method involves suspending the TV over the plastic and ball.

There are other companies that sell DVDs perfect for the illusion, though I haven't ordered anything from them yet. Light Form Productions has great customer service and I can't complain about the quality of the videos. A little goofy for some, but works out fine for me.

It's a really neat effect when done right. I don't have my themed nailed down for next year yet, but I intend to build a stand alone booth to protect the TV from the elements that also allows the prop to be used for any number of themes with new dressings.

Aside from projections, those TVs could be hooked up to a DVD player and use any number of more ambient footage to add to the effect of the haunt. I plan on ordering some DVDs from Twisted Ambience next year for my brother and my grandmother's yard displays. Very interesting stuff.

Thanks for the amazing information. And I hope I can partially return the favor.

I went to party city 3 days ago and they had fortune teller, haunted house, and mad scientist dvds for 49 cents. Each video was over 30 minutes long. They had over 12 titles to choose from and lots of stock on hand.

I could also probably use one if i ever do a Poltergeist theme. (OMG: The remake of Poltergeist is scheduled to come out in 2011)
