Default Dremel Tools

Hi everyone!

So I really want to get crackin' on making some props for next Halloween, gravestones mostly, and I know that a lot of you use a Dremel tool for carving the stones and epitaphs.

I looked at the Dremel web site and found that they have a lot of different models.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to which one is best? Or at least let me know which one you use and how you like it. I just want to make an informed purchase.

Thanks!

Chuck

Personally, I really dig the Stylus. Especially if you are doing light work, like carving foam. No cord to deal with, and it weight next to nothing.

I think the only necessity for the dremel is the router attachment. Being able to use the flat base of the router attachment to carve out a relief with a flat bottom is a big plus. Getting a light one is a good choice too especially if you'll be using it for long periods of time. However, if you'll be using it for other things around the house a larger and more powerful model may be better.

I use the 400xpr and mainly use the flat bottom router bit the most. I use the rounded router bit for free hand stuff too.

I, also, use a dremel, with a router attachment. (Love, love, love my dremel )
But, I use this idea to carve the epitahs:

I use a wood burning tool, it's less messy. The dremmel made "snow" everywhere. They have them at Michael's and you could use a 40% coupon.

aye, the wood burning tool is my most used tool for tombstones. I've heard that the fumes are toxic so be careful. I do mine in the garage behind a fan so all fumes are sucked into the fan and away from me! But the dremel is a must for some things.

Once again, more good info! I'll check my local Target and see what kind of stuff they have.

Thanks again everyone!
