My haunt is very absent of full size skeletons. After doing the blucky props this year, I am ready to move on to the bucky world. What is the best mix of realism and price. Anatomical chart company, Bargain Boneyard? Where is the best place to pick one up for next year and at what cost?

    Thanks for all advice!

It depends on what you want to do. Blucky's are light and can be mounted in odd places. The Bucky's are heavier but stand up to closer scrutiny. It also depends on how you corpse them. For my Bucky I used panty hose and wig hair. For the Blucky I used paper towels. Both were coated w/ carpet glue and doused in various stains. Sometimes you can get Bucky's off of Ebay for around 60-65$. The first pix is a Bucky. The second is my Blucky w/ his LED eyes lit up. The third is the Blucky hung in a PVC cage. I hung the Bucky in there last year and it was a disaster due to the Bucky's weight. Good luck.

SKeleton store .. have them set you up as a home haunter you will get a discount off the price of the buckies.. I think buckys for $60 days are gone .. this year they had a sale with them at around 70.00 a piece .. You can find some good deals on buckys occasionally on ebay ..

What time of the year did the Skelton Store have its sale? My wife says props are off limits through the holidays.

Anyone have experience with the Barney or Paul $60-70 bargain buckies? Are 4th qualiy buckies acceptable? I get scared at a $99 price tag with a disclaimer, "NOTE: THIS IS A 4TH QUALITY SKELETON AND MAY BE IMPERFECT, DISCOLORED, UNFINISHED, OR HAVE MISSING HARDWARE. ALL SALES OF 4TH QUALITY GOODS ARE FINAL. RETURNS ARE NOT ACCEPTED."

I'm thinking about a Lindburg skull for close scrutiny skulls.

Thanks for the tips so far.

I've purchased a couple of the 4th quality Bucky's, and the quality is just fine, despite what the disclaimer states.

I'll admit, the jaw on one was a bit out of alignment (and re-forming the bones is extraordinarily easy), and a few of the bones and "cartilage" had excess flash on them, that needed a little trimming with a utility knife.
But, outside of very minor imperfections, the 4th Quality Bucky is a great purchase.

2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

I'd also recommend the 4th Quality Buckies. They're CONSIDERABLY cheaper than the 1st quality, and they look fantastic. Sure, you might have minor imperfections, but nothing that I noticed on mine. I can't wait to pick up more. Definitely keep your eyes on eBay. And don't bid on it until later in the auction -- bidding early on just drives the price up. ;o)

    The way I like to describe the best use of the popular skeletons (Bucky, Barney, and Bluckys) is this;

Buckys are best in the foreground, up close.
Barneys are good for the midground. (Even then, I like to swap his head with a smaller styrofoam skull)
Bluckys are better off in the background. In my opinion, the very far away background!

Buckys weigh about 25 lbs and solid injection molded plastic, Barneys are around 4 lbs and mostly hollow blow molded plastic.

Here's a picture of Bucky and Barney, side by side.

I bought a barney and a bucky this year and corpsed them the same way. I found that the hardware on the barney is a little cheap but with 15 minutes and some wire can be upgraded to be more solid. The buckys are very good quality with great hardware and like Lurks in the shadows said they weight a hefty 25 pounds or so.

I think next year I'll be going with the barney's because of the cost/quality and it being so lightweight.

here are some pics, the first one on the fence is the barney, the second hanging from the tree is the bucky.
