At around 10pm I black out my house with the press of one button on an X10 remote, then the real party starts. 2000 watt commercial sound system, 4000 watts of strobes (out side this year) and 48 people at an H party they will never forget...
I thought you SFX geeks might appreciate. Check it out. Turn up your speakers.

Yeah, until about 10pm or so, the lighting is fairly normal and the music played in another room, intentionally bad. I custom make the opening audio tracks each year. So yes, that is the "start" of the party. This year was awesome as people were dying for some good dance music...
First song is "Planet Claire" by the B-52s. It was PERFECT. Had a long intro that morphed into a full range fade just before that lightening hit and it went full volume...JH

Where do you live? I'd like to start making travel plans now for next year! Great job. Looks like an awesome party.

It was a great party. See Omenwood Hotel (Night Spa and Funeral Parlor). I'll be posting more pics there as soon as I get the house cleaned up enough to be able to walk through.
I had an "ice pipe"/fogger at the top of the stairs that is in the very upper right hand corner of the video. It was set for 5 sec bursts 120 seconds apart. It worked ok, but with a ceiling fan on in that room, and all those people, the air was moving way too much for it to have any cold effect.JH

How many people did you have partying away?

We had 48 counting us. It was our 16th party in 18 years. The best party, the biggest crowd, although '06 was real close. As I have stated in other threads, all the SFX, props, sound and lighting in the world don't make a party, its the people. This year we had just the right mix, balanced from 3 different social circles (work, church, neighborhood). Everybody was pumped for a good party, in a great mood and many had been before and eagerly anticipated the "blackout" event. Its kind of my way of saying, OK, its time, lets get this thing going. Prior to that time, I play some REALLY BAD 70s music on a crappy system in another room.
I basically control everything with X10 modules, and use a wireless keypad. A few fixed wall switch lights in my house are already on X10 switches, but fo rth rest we just bring out lamps and use the wall wart modules. We go so far as to put electrical tape over the oven and cable box displays (things that we can't really turn off) so it is BLACK. Usually do a rehearsal the night before the party
Another fun thing is right before the blackout, I transform the bathroom. I take out the incandescent bulbs, and put in flicker bulbs and a 18" blacklight. Then I turn on the booby trapped bathroom closet. Invariably people use the bathroom after the blackout and notice it is different. And because the lighting is dim, they usually open the closet door looking for more light....
In fact, if you watch that YT video, right around 3:22 I think, you can hear a fire alarm going off. That is someone getting busted in the bathroom.....JH

What lightning program are you running? It looked great. A great twist on reverse lighting (outside lights to accent the inside)
If a kid cries...I did it right.
