EDIT: I am thankful for the links that were shared below.
Please see my last post below for the completion of my first armature.
He is just the right amount of creepy! Thanks!

    Hi all..

This is my first thread in the prop section. I decided last night that in my front window I would like to make a 5 to 6 foot man type prop that stands in front of the window. I plan on using my clothes, some knee high rubber boots, work gloves, and a scary mask. The kiddo's will have to walk right past him to get the candy.

I have read enough post here to know that a PVC armature would probably be the best way to give him form. I did a SEARCH to see how to make one.. with approximate dimensions and such... but came up empty.

My plea for help is as follows:
1)Can anyone point me in the direction of a post that is already here that explains in moderate depth how to make a PVC armature.

    or..

2)Can someone please share how to do it. I can lean him against a chair if need be to stand.. but would like for him to stand on his own if possible!

Thanks for your time and Assistance! This is my first attempt at something like this! Thanks so much!!! :-)

This may help also with the length ratios on a body.

OK... here is my first ever armature. It cost 6 bucks in pvc pipes and elbows... and I bought a graduation robe for another 6 bucks at goodwill, as I thought it would be easier than trying to dress my first armature in clothes . I think he came out good. I put rubber boots and rubber gloves on him. Kind of a cross between Zombie and aMad doc. I am really glad to have made it tonight as a last minute thought... and I use that Zombie calculator for dimensions... it really helped. Thanks, Galen!

I have a small ranch style house... so the TOT's will have to walk up the driveway right by this guy to get to ring the bell to get to the candy. I do not have enough time to flesh him out more.. but will have that for next year! I clamped a blue light above his head.. so he is nice and eerie!

creeepycathy is right. The best thing about chicken wire is that it can be stretched even after you build what you want. Just like any fabric, once you have the piece you need, it can be stretched out LARGER than what it was originally cut for. This is a great way to make shoulders from a "poncho" style cut, or a "chest" from simply folding it over.
