So I set up my catacombs with an older Lite/FX fogger. It was kicking out great fog, then it ran out of juice so I shut it off. About an hour later, some friends stopped by and I wanted to show them the scene with fog so I fire it back up. Now all it does is make a loud buzzing noise and make no fog at all! I took it apart slightly to see the insides and it looks like the pump is vibrating a lot but not actually pulling any fog liquid into the hose.

Any thoughts on what this could be? There doesn't appear to be any blockage in the hose... is it just dead and that's it?

    Eric,
Is this one of 1741's? If so, I think I know what's wrong, and here's a link to a repair instruction I wrote up a couple years ago.

    Lite F/X Fogger Pump Repair ? Modd3d

When you open the pump, watch for a small plastic part to fall out, it'll look like a chunk of dried fog fluid. Do not be fooled, this is an essential part of the pump. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

The symptoms you described are exactly the same as what I had. Those 1741's are real workhorses - I didn't want to trash it without attempting a repair.

Edit: I just noticed in your post that it ran out of fluid. That's what killed my pump, too.

Good question. I've never been able to find a replacement pump source. I've read that a windshield washer pump can make a good substitute, but I never tried it myself.

Check the thermostat - that's what tells the pump to start when the heater reaches operating temp. You may have a loose or disconnected wire. Also, look for an adjustment screw on the thermostat but be careful. Changing the setting may kill the thermostat.

Man, Otaku...it worked!!!! That little top-hat piece didn't want to come out of the elbow, but I I got it and then everything in the instructions made sense. I did it all and tested it last night and proceeded to fog my kitchen!

Thanks for that! I'm happy once again!
