    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aytJMUzoOWU]YouTube - Thunder & Lightning Test 10/17/09[/ame]

    Here's a quick video showcasing my new thunder & lightning effect.

    It's a LightsAlive firefly unit and a cheap thunderfx box (the one with the lightning bolt on it).

    I have the audio running out to both the firefly and the thunderfx via a Y-cable so they can share the left audio program which is a few seconds ahead of the right audio program that is heard in the room via my home theater system.

    I ran a audio cable from the living room into the bathroom where I have the lightningFX box and a suspended photo flash bulb, which is clamped to the bathroom window so that you can't see the light source (I hope the neighbors don't mind!)

    The audio source is my ipod and an 11 min. audio program that the nice folks at LightsAlive provided with the unit.

    Now I know some of you are thinking, why didn't you just buy the upgraded LightsAlive box that did both? Well, simply put, I already had the lightningFX box and didn't have the money to buy the upgraded firefly unit. LOL

    So all in all, it ran me $149 for the firefly, $7 for the bulb, and I already had everything else!

    Enjoy!

    Nice! I like that the "outside" lightning didn't exactly mimic the inside flicker - very realistic.

    Looks great! I love the lights going on and off. My lightning effect is a 200 watt techno strobe and a light controller. I basically put a small speaker near the sound controller with some sounds, and on the other speaker play the thunder. The small sound plays a couple of short burst sounds, some louder than others. This controls the brightness of the strobe. It works pretty good, not as nice as having actual lights in the house flicker, but does the job.
