Hey guys-
I need an easy, cheap and fast way to control a sound file via the
prop-1. I know they have the AP-8- but I'd prefer not to pay $50 for a
single sound. Any other ideas out there?

Depending on what the sound is a mp3 player can loop and all you need to do is turn on and off the speakers. For example a dog growling might not have a stop or stop place that is required. This my cheapo solution using a motion light and ac powered speakers.

Yeah- just got an mp3 file I want to trigger at the same time as a motor, all using the prop-1... interesting idea on the speakers. It MIGHT work, but I'd think there would be some overlap in the timing- so the speakers would turn on in the middle of the sound track. That would'nt work...
Don't need a trigger or motion sensor- just the timing off the prop-1...

you could use a relay to switch the sound to the speakers

Hey Specter, You can trigger your MP3 player on and off with the prop1. Don't you have one of those $5 cheap players from way back? Well our favorite electronics wizards Otaku and Bourno wrote a how to on triggering such a device. I will have to hunt for it but as long as you trigger the on / off button for a long enough time(about 4 seconds) it will work flawlessly and play your file from the beginning every time. I am using it on one of my props this year and it hasn't missed a beat yet.
Here is one of the sites I used. Thought there was another but I can't find it.
MP3 player hack with Motion Detection
I only added the two wires for switching MP3 on and off, and the bigger batteries.

OH I forgot, you'll need the appropriat voltage relay to make the mp3 switch on and off.

Nope- not using those. I'm using some different MP3 players I got off ebay... not sure how hackable they are.

If I remember correctly and if I'm thinking of the same one Indianaholmes is talking about ,the hack was essentially running 2 wires from the" on " button switch on the circuit board to a relay that was triggered when the Prop -1 was. I think that was on haunt forum.

huh. So do you think I can take apart MY mp3 player and do the same thing? It's totally different than these ones, but- same concept maybe? How would I know what volts/amps to use?

Actually- this looks like a great solution...
VMusic2 MP3 Player
I'll use it THIS year, but might switch it out for a different prop next year, and use a hacked MP3 player next year for this prop.
Thanks guys!
