Well if you dont have to touch it, insulation looks a lot like cotton candy. Or perhaps coloring some of those stringy cheap spider webs.

AWFC, do you have any polyfill stuffing handy? It's sold by the bag in craft stores for stuffing pillows, plushies, and dolls. It's white and fluffy and not nearly so itchy as insulation ;> It's pretty cheap, so not too much $ wasted if it doesn't take paint well. If spray paint melts it, you could try watered-down pink craft paint spritzed on with a spray bottle.

Get some construction paper or light cardboard for cones, and you'd be all set!

I would try some of the halloween temporary color hair spray. It comes in neon like colors like pink and blue which I always associate with cotton candy.

I was thinking that maybe floral spray might work better than spray paint. But, I have never used it and it was just the first thought that came to me.

I've actually made prop cotton candy for a stage show once...and yes, quilt batting works great and will take spray paint...just do several very light coats and go with the "grain" of the batting...

we just attached it to a paper cone and started with a rather long lentgh of the batting. Since cotton candy is wrapped, we glued the end of the batting to the cone a the bottom, and then wrapped it around itself until we got the nice roundish oval shape of CC. Spraying the paint along the edges first, we created depth of color, then lightly sprayed the outside. This really sold the look.

One other note, so that it looks real, stretch the batting before putting it on...it will look whispy and more like individual strands of spun sugar.

Hope this helps...and please post photos once you've got it done!
