Picked up Target's variation of the Gemmy Boney Barney Skeleton Dog last night. Reg. 19.99 but on sale this week for $15.99. He was the last one of the shelf (their sale this week has cleared out a lot of merchandise, at least at my location). Barney is pretty cool. He has a lot of personality. I love his movement (he sits back on his hind legs and will lurch forward sometimes). His head moves side to side sometimes and his mouth moves as he talks. His bulging eyes light up when he talks. The speaker is in his chest so his audio is easy to hear.

I mentioned this was Target's variation of the dog. They don't call him by the Gemmy name--he's just packaged as Animated Skeleton Dog. He has a plug in Try Me Button and takes 4 AAs (which are included). It's copyrighted 2009 by Gemmy. Here's what the Target version says (different from other versions apparently); he's quite talkative:

    * Wow, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. (eating, grrrr) You're getting to close to my treats. Those are for me! (grrr)
    * Hey buddy, can you throw me a bone here?
    * (Slurp) boy I'm thirsty. Water just goes right through me. (slurp)
    * I know it must be halloween 'cause (sniff, sniff) because I smell treats.
    * Come on give me a treat! I'm so hungry. I'm just skin and bones, without the skin.
    * (Wuff) I'm hungry. I need the kind of halloween treats that really stick to your ribs (wuff, wuff).
    * The leg bone's connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone's connected to the hip bone.

I found this link to another Gemmy dog variation at CostumeCatalog. His audio track is listed on the site and quite different. CostumeCatalog.com: View Item: Animated Boney Barney Skeleton Dog with Sound

Here's a YouTube of this version: YouTube - Talking Skeleton Dog

I think I may use Barney as a pet dog in my monster's lab. Need to find a food dish for him and some treats. Will probably make up a dog bisquit box of treats to put on the table near him.

Anyone else buy this guy? How are you planning on using him and will you modify him in anyway? I would love to give him some new audio tracks at some point. I was thinking of some voice tracks when he says things like "Yes, master..."

We were just looking for the Boney Barney for our set up. I like what this one says better, so I am going on the hunt to Targets tomorrow to find him. Wish me luck! And thanks for always posting your finds, your info. helps me immensely.

The more I play with this guy the more I like him. He actually looks pretty well built. I'm going to add some fur to cover his teal ears and add some brown paint to cover the teal eye circle. May add some fur to the tail too (it's going to be left over from my werewolf mask I'm taking apart). I thought of corpsing him but really don't have the time for it this year. Also want to add a custom dog collar. With the food bowl and dog food he should be looking pretty good. Oh and of course he needs a dog bone. Last thing I need to do is decide how to handle the Try Me this year.

BTW I could see adding a small red ball to the nose area, painting him white and covering his body with a white sheet "ghost" costume and he would look alot like Zero from "Nightmare Before Christmas" I think or at least like a dog dressed up to be him.

Tish hope you were able to find him.

Bought mine the same time you bought yours. Got the last one my local Target had. He's hanging out in my living room near the fireplace. No plans on modifications since I'm getting too much mileage out of turing him on from time to time to surprise my better half when he least expects it.
