Thread: Help with Making Props move without Air

Hello fellow haunters! I am new to the forum and this is my first post! But I tell you reading the others has really got me ready for Halloween this year. I am wanting to make some props that move but I would like to do it as cheap as possible since money is limited. I am really good with PVC but I have only made static figures. I also have people in my crew who are good with wood and other materials. Our welder is currently out of commission and it costs too much to fix at this time. I have heard of people using rotating fans and other items already found in the home. ALL ideas will be greatly appreciated as would pictures. Thanks guys!

I use motors borrowed from "lawn deer" and rotisseries. I've tried using oscillating fan motors in the past, but they are usually quite noisy and generally ruin the effect unless they are running a faux flame in the distant background.

I used this one for my leaner prop.


motor only cost $9,but cant move very heavy things. This motor is also a nice cheap one, good for small movements, like head turn, or arm movements.

and get a wiper motor set up, good for stuff like stirring witch, or headbobbers and such.

When we were kids, we used ropes to animate stuff. I'm gonna try more of that in the future; perhaps even let guests pull it to scare other guests?

Thanks so much! Sounds like the wiper motor might be cheap enough since we have several junk yards in my area. Now on to the fun part, figuring out what I want to make move and building it
