I want to come up with a coffin that would be strong yet light. (it must be hauled up to the attic each year)

Oh yes, I wanted to ask you.....(be honest now).....just how many times have you jumped in your coffin to try it on for size now ?
here's one I did several years ago, it wasnt light tho and no way would be lifted to the attic, but it was comfy and I did take a few naps in it

Hey Scott.....your coffin looks great too! I work in furniture Mfg. I am thinking of perhaps making one the same thin wood we make Dr.backs out of for chests and dressers etc.

Think is allot of the scrap stock I have access to is only about 2 1/2 ft. long and different widths. But it is strong and light and my favorite part....FREE !

    Will see.....

Looks like you are doing a great job - interesting to see one in progress. I am building two of these Rockler caskets this year - one for my haunt and one to sell.

I was thinking of a gloss black - how will you finish yours ?
