There are a set of wood carving bits that work wonderfully.

You can use drill bits for the very fine detail but be careful... if the foam melts it turns into a little ball at the end and it quickly balls up (like cotton candy) and makes a much larger hole than you want.

Only you are going to be able to tell which bits work best for you. I'd get a nice piece of scrap and test out several different bits - doing epitaphs, detail work, etc... to see what you like and can handle best.

That's what I did - printed out a few sample text sheets and put them on the foam and carved... and messed up and tried something else.

Trying them out is the best way!

I used a zip bit used for cutting sheetrock. It works great. Doesn't melt the foam, at least the blue foam anyway. I also used the router attachment for the dremel to help keep it steady and straight and to keep a consistent depth.

I'm at work now. Hope to get some pix up soon.

Be sure to use the low speed on the Dremel. The high speed is what melts the foam.
