I am working on a man eating plant that lunges forward and snaps its jaws. I have solved the problem of having it lunge forward, but have not come up with a way to make the mouth close quickly. I am not the most mechanically knowledgeable builder (I do okay). So if there is a way that it can be done without motors or pneumatics, that would be best. Right now the lunge is driven with a vertical "see-saw" type of mechanic, I would like it if this would help drive the jaw close.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my head is beginning to bleed from the repeated beating against the wall.

    Thanks.

Here a few pics. It is still in the early stages. I am trying to get the mechanics worked out before I finish up the dressings. The present jaw configuration is not set in stone, so I am open to any suggestions or help.

I don't know if you already finished this prop but this is what you're looking for.

When the four bar mechanism lunges foward the jaw snaps shut and an expansion spring keeps it open. You should also use a steel cable and give it some slack to close at the right time.
