I'm stuck on a project that is sooooo close to being done - I have 8 bodies in sheer body bags on meat hooks and I need some HAIR on the heads of these things to make them look a little more realistic. It needs to be beyond cheap as well, we're reaching the end of our budget soon. Any suggestions on what would work? My ideas were old halloween masks, doll hair, or wigs, but I can't think of a place to get these on the super-cheap. Craigslist and Freecycle turned up nada. Shaving the neighbor's dog is not an option either.

Any ideas? Where'd you get hair for your prop bodies?

In the past I have picked up end-of-the-season adult and children's halloween wigs during deep clearance for later prop use but that won't help you now.

I did find this synthetic hair braid material at DOLLAR TREE a week or so ago. $1 for a handful of 60 inch strands of hair. Since the bodies are in somewhat transparent bags maybe you could cut and glue some of this to your props and you wouldn't need to go the whole wig route. In my location I only found it in black but you could always get some theatrical hair coloring spray and change a bunch of hair for different looks. Here's a pic of the braid material. It's not braided by the way but loose and rubber banded at the end to keep it together in the package.

I picked up the hair braid at Dollar General just tonight. You could also glue pieces of fake fur to the heads since they are in bags and even add mustaches for the men!

This may be yucky, but it's free. How about you swing by a hair cutting salon and ask them to give you a bag of what they sweep off the floor. That or go to Petco and ask the groomers for clippings.

I've taken manilla or similar rope, unbraided the threads, and then spray painted them black with pretty good results. I've also taken unbraided rope threads and soaked them in old coffee, which gives a sort of yellowish look. It works well if you're looking for a sort of scraggled, matted, patchy effect, but not if you're wanting a full head of hair.

Technically, that is ilegal. HUman hair is considered toxic waste, a bio-hazard.

You can ask, but any place that allows you could get the license yanked, and face serious fines.

You can also purchase hair extensions from drug stores, I've used those in the past with excellent results

Banished per i crimini che ancora frequentano i miei sogni... ed all'interno di queste pagine un facade di che cosa la i era una volta si sveglia per essere i miei incubi...Ispirisi mantenere dal cadere come ho...
