Thread: A decent drop panel

I wonder how hard it would be to use a portrait with an exactly life sized face, carefully cut out the eyeholes, and mount the portrait's eyes on a small horizontal slider (yeah, kinda like you see in old cartoon shows)? Then the drop panel becomes multi-purpose. You could creep people out by staring at them and then drop the panel for a double scare. You could alternate by just using complete surprise as the panel alone does and then only on occassion, peering out through the eye holes? Just a thought. Not sure how viable it is except in the cartoons.

Or, do something like my Dracula picture. As they approach to take a closer look, BAM!, drop the panel. LOL

I would think that would be doable.

Man
That is a great idea. I have one statis portrait with the eyes cut out just like in that video. The eyes are mounted about 1/2" behind the cutouts and illuminated. When you walk by, the eyes appear to follow you. With the drop panel, there is nothing that would get in the way of the eyes so it would work great. Just have to make sure the eyes are sturdy enough to take the beating of the panel dropping over and over again.

Yes, the eyes are about 1/4" behind the portrait (d/l on the internet). The eyes are just simply drawn on a matte board. Originally, I was going to use halved ping-pong balls. But for this size portrait, this worked pretty well. I used LEDs between the portrait on eyes to light them. I would think the LEDs would work well for the drop panel as well. They should handle the drop action fairly well.
