Default My haunted organ prop begins

So here is my big build prop this year.

As some of you might know I can into possession of a 1910 pump organ off of Craig’s list not to long ago that I plan on turning into a haunted organ, but not just any haunted organ.

Like many of my harebrained ideas my plan for this is grand. This organ will have one of my Garden Ridge skeletons playing it with one of Dr. Morbius’s 3 axis skulls on top. But wait there is more! His arms will be able to scale the keyboard while playing AND he will be able to lean in and away from the keyboard all programmed by VSA and run by DMX and DMXorcist.

The main plan is to move the heavy parts with wiper motors converted into servos (3) and I have already found the h-bridge servo controllers (that was a chore) that can handle the amps these motors can demand but will cover this more in depth as I progress with this project. Although I do have some BOC boards, I feel the new Medusa board is better fit for the job.

So anyway here are some photos and video of my current progress. As of today I have the foot pumps working that I will attach the skeleton feet to making the illusion that he is pumping the organ.

This is how I got it.

This is what I did to it.

Starting to prep the wiper mechanism board.

Since the original organ used straps to connect the pump, I wanted to try to keep it looking as original as possible and found this strap material at Wal-Mart.

I then enlisted the help from an experienced Halloween enthusiast to help attach the strap to the pedals.

And this is how it looks so far.

The wiper motor is running at high speed at five volts and I might need to bump that up to 12 volts slow to get some more torque out of it, maybe even add some pulleys to reduce friction.

Dang that's impressive. I'm afraid my organ is going to suck compared to yours!

Could you please rephrase that - I have a rather unpleasant mental picture forming from your words!

Very nice so far. Well thought out, and the pedal movement looks great. Following along on this one.

Looks fantastic! Can't wait to see what you do with it. Might give us some ideas for revamping ours to make it better!
Oh and those metal bars in the trash can look scarily familiar lol

Wow, Mark... you are going to be busy! I can't wait to see the progress! Oh, and I agree with Fritz42... there's just too many ways to be dirty with this thread

Your Medusa DMX boards shipped this morning, so you should probably receive them Wed or Thurs. Let me know if you need any tech help with the electrical/control side of your haunted organ!

I am beyond envious of people with houses and storage for props like that. As an apartment dweller, all of my stuff is in rubbermaid bins and stuffed away in my tiny parking garage stockage locker.

I think your work thus far is amazing and I can't wait to see it all come together.

This is starting to look quite fantastic. I can't wait to see more as it comes along.
