Allrighty then!

I now have all of the parts I had to order to make this work in including a nice piano bench for the organist to sit on. It is nice and deep so hiding the wiper motor that will make him lean forward and backwards easy to conceal. This is more or less what he will look like in the finished project (less the top of his head).

I have been taking great pains to conceal his mechanics because I want to have the complete skeleton exposed and not dress him as many do to hide the inner workings. This is one of the reasons I am building the sled assembly to move his hand inside the organ itself. Now that I have all my parts I hope to have the sled working by next weekend.

Here is today’s update, I AM RUNNING BEHIND!

Aside from that I all but completed the organists base servo today (the bench) except for some fine tuning of the controller board. I am starting to panic a bit as I have three projects going right now not including the Boogity skeleton which I have not even started on yet (anyone in the Dallas area with nothing to do? ).

Anyway, I removed the cushion from the base to make things easy, I then took my trusty Dremel and notched out an area for the linkage to work. Earlier I replaces the rod in the skeletons spine with a 3’ 5/16th all thread rod and I used a connector nut to connect the skeleton to the linkage (glad I did this too, makes it easier to work on). For the pivot I found a solid steel rod cut it to size and drilled a 5/16th hole in the center (note to self next time buy aluminum because it is a heck of a lot easier to cut) and some steel piping that the rod fit snugly into but could still spin in and mounted the contraption to the underside.

Next I connected the skeleton by the connecter nut to another shorter all thread, thru the pivot and bolted everything down (I also drilled some holes thru the all thread to connect the linkage to the motor before this). Connected the linkage to the motor and this is what it looks like.

It then took me about an hour to get the motor controller working so I could test it, about another hour or two fixing the damage the motor did because I ran it full out when testing it (the Pololu Jrk 12v12 can drive these wiper motors to their full potential with a continuous output of 12 amp and peaking to 30 with a working voltage range of 6- 16 volts).

Here is how it looks so far.

Wow, that looks awesome, Mark! Umm.... you didn't happen to mean to say 'contraption', rather than contraception, did you?

So, do you have the pololu board running the skeleton in position control mode, or speed control mode? The pot you're showing... is that for debug command? That board is really pretty cool!

Damn spell check and beer, but who would want to have sex with this guy anyway?

Fixed that edit.

Anyway he is in position control mode, as I twisted the pot it thought it was moving away from it target and was trying to correct. When finished the pot will be mounted to the motor making it a full blown servo.

This board is bad a** but OMG do not unleash the beast until you have it tuned >.<

That's really really really cool. So how much does one of those macho servo setups cost?
